Statement of Intent
Statement of Intent.
My thriller will be about a boy who sees a ghost in an abandoned church surrounded by a forest. He tells everyone what he sees, and no one believes him, so he goes to explore further only to be discovered days later dead in the forest. A detective then comes to investigate the murder and finds some strange things. The target audience for this thriller will be 16–25-year-olds and the detective's age will reflect this because he is the main character. The crime genre is also popular with this age range so will make them want to watch the thriller more.
For my print advertisement, I will follow the rules of the Advertising Standards Authority. For example, my posters will not contain graphic imagery, because they will be displayed in public places so certain people could find them distressing and upsetting, such as children. I will also ensure that my posters do not cause offense to anyone. My thriller will also be shown after 9pm as it will not be suitable for children because of the topic of murder and graphic images.
Throughout the Thriller I will represent two different social groups, the detective will be a part of the middle class as he has a good high-power job but will also be in his early-mid 20’s to relate to the target audience. The detective will have a positive representation because he is the hero. This helps to make the primary target audience want to watch the thriller as they will relate to a positively represented character. The teenage boy who gets murdered will represent the lower class as he has no power, and no one listens to him. He will be represented as adventurous, which may remind the audience of themselves when they were a few years younger. The positive representation of these characters is used to promote the show and encourage the target audience to watch the thriller.
I will use mise-en-scene within my poster in ways that will encourage the target audience to watch the thriller. I will use the settings of a forest and an abandoned church. The abandoned church is a use of iconography as abandoned places are usually seen in the thriller genre. I will also use some typical detective props such as a magnified glass and long coat.
